2 weeks ago, I went to Popular bookstore at City Mall to renew my member card and I found out that the validity of student-member card is 2 years for RM10, whereas for adult-member card is only 1 year at the same price.
So I decided not to renew my card and asked my son to sign up a new card.
Then we browse around the book shelves and ....
BRAVO! I found the sequel, titled "The last empress"....
Can't remember since when I started to become fascinated by stories of China's dowager empress Cixi, I think that was years ago when Astro showed a chinese TV series "紫荆城" (if I got the characters right) or in English - The Forbidden City. I've also read some articles in certain websites to know more about Cixi, or sometimes spelt as Tzu Hsi.
Hmmm... I don't think any writers and movie-makers can come into a conclusion on the true colours of this woman, most stories painted her as a notorious, selfish, wicked, money & power crazy woman.
The two books written by Anchee Min were moderate, the writer put herself in the shoes (rather 6-inch platform with heels in the centre sole) of Cixi, and put her wild imaginations plus historical facts to complete these 2 books.
Well, it doesn't matter to me on the accuracy of the stories, they are worth reading as a past-time and at times made me feel as though I was watching a movie instead of reading a book.
Hmmm... with 'The last empress' in my hands and savouring on my favourite mee-hoon stir-fried with dried prawns, eggs, carrots and chinese long cabbage - this is my kind of Sweet Happy Life ........
yummy, yummy, delicious food and delicious story book ..... burrrrp....... excuse me.
:)
